It Should go without saying but you must virus check any videos,mp3s etc from sites you dont know.That includes any links off this page. You're anti-virus may check what you are downloading as you do it but some do not. The most likely sites to get a virus from are mixed MP3 or video sites you dont usually get them from fansites eg sites about one band only.But they could strike at any time. The best thing you can do is set your anti-virus program to self update rather than you doing it manually.Then you should be covered all the time. Then again no anti-virus program can be 100% gauranteed to give total protection anyway.Just one of life's little risks and not worth worrying about as long as you have auto-updater set on your program.
Also you must never open any E-mail if you dont know who it's from,it's not worth the risk. They try to trick you into opening them by saying hi and other such nicities and using a popular name. It's simple, just bin them.
If you're using Outlook Express you can set up mail rules to block particular senders of spam or dodgy mail quite easily.

Another good thing to do is keep your E-Mail for your friends and family and open a new account elsewhere to use for signing up to sites.This saves your private inbox being filled with spam.
